Instructor Background

I graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts in music. It was here at this University that I studied vocal and instrumental music. I have performed in the orchestra at EMU as a principal trumpet player and studied trumpet at James Madison University.

I also studied voice with Dr. Kenneth Nafziger who was chair of the music department and is the current artistic director of the Bach concerts held at EMU each summer. I also performed in many opera’s during my time there and was privileged to work with renowned composer Alice Parker. I have also studied voice with Mr. Calvin Remsburg who performed with the Washington Metropolitan Opera.

Later, I studied at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown West Virginia and gained my accreditation and license to teach music in grades k-12. I completed my studies at Shepherd in 2003.

I am now retired from Frederick County Public Schools where I taught Band and Orchestra for many years! At present, I serve on the Hagerstown Community Concert Association board of Directors, responsible for bringing in talent across the country to perform at the Maryland Theatre.

I enjoy offering private vocal and instrumental lessons to the surrounding community. I can perform on most orchestral and band instruments.

In addition to music instruction, I am also the author of two children's books. "Bowster O'dor, the farting violinist" (published in 2020) is a music themed comedy that I am sure will make kids laugh! The second, "My Visit with Mama in Heaven" (published in 2021) is a short-celebrated reunion of mother and daughter.
